UPDATE - January 22, 2024 | Work is progressing well for the repairs, so despite the weather, the following updates have been shared by MOTI:
- Work on the Highway 17A Overpass Project was cancelled for Friday and Saturday night; January 19th & 20th, due to weather. The remaining snow on the overpass posed a hazard to crews and could not be removed as this would create a hazard for traffic travelling underneath the overpass.
- The nightly closures of Highway 17A southbound from 7PM – 5AM resumed on Sunday night, January 21st.
- There will be at least one more full Friday-Saturday closure of Highway 17A southbound for the bridge deck pour. Date to be determined.
The next upcoming full closure is still expected to be this weekend. Details are below and continue to be relevant.

January 9, 2024 | Yesterday, the Ministry of Transporation began its permanent Highway 17A Overpass repairs. Below is a summary of the key facts you need to know for your business during this project. This page will be updated with changes as/if they occur, with dates of changes noted.
Key Highlights:
- Construction road work is scheduled January 8, 2024 to March 1, 2024 (weather dependent)
- There will be nightly closures of the Highway 17A southbound lane (7 days/week from 7pm to 5am) throughout construction
- The Highway 17A southbound ("Hwy 17A SB") lane will be open daily from 5am to 7pm (with the exception of the closures noted below)
- Highway 17A northbound ("Hwy 17A NB") will remain fully open throughout construction
- The following complete & partial weekend closures of the Hwy 17A SB lane and ALL Highway 99 SB ("Hwy 99 SB") lanes will be in effect as follows:
- Friday, January 12 through Sunday, January 14:
- Hwy 17A SB = Complete closure: Friday from 7pm until Sunday at 5pm (day and night)
- Hwy 99 SB = Complete closure: Friday from 10pm until Sunday at 5pm (day and night)
- Hwy 17A NB = Remains open
- Friday, January 12 through Sunday, January 14:

On November 7th, the Delta Chamber of Commerce took a proactive stance by urging the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) to delay the planned closures for Highway 17A & Highway 99 until January 2024. Board Chair, Rosanne Horner, wrote a letter to Minister Rob Fleming, emphasizing the need to consider the community's interests during the repair process and on November 9th, the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) announced the decision to reschedule the repairs for the Highway 17A crossing over Highway 99.
