Thanks to Garry Shearer – Upon His Departure as DCC Executive Director

On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the Delta Chamber of Commerce staff, I would like to thank our Executive Director Garry Shearer for his service at the Delta Chamber. Garry notified our Board that he will be stepping down when the federal election is called to pursue a federal candidacy position. Garry Shearer Candidacy Announcement Delta Optimist

Garry has done an exemplary job for the Delta Chamber, building on a solid foundation and pursuing a mandate of effective advocacy for our business community. Under Garry’s leadership, the Delta Chamber successfully supported businesses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, at a time when many membership organizations suffered. The Delta Chamber not only increased membership, but also developed new programs to assist businesses through these trying times. The Chamber held a virtual awards gala last fall and most recently hosted our annual golf tournament. The tournament was a sold-out event and raised more funds than any other tournament in our history.  While Garry is departing for the next chapter of his life, he leaves behind a competent team with a collaborative and inclusive culture that will enable the Chamber to flourish into the future.

The Chamber’s long-standing partnerships within our community have paved the way for exceptional candidates from our community interested in Board positions. We believe these partnerships will also offer a strong candidate, as we are currently seeking a replacement for the Executive Director position. In the interim, our staff and Board will continue our mission as the Voice of Business for Delta. We look forward to announcing our new Executive Director in early September.

I would like to personally, and on behalf of our Board, congratulate Garry and thank him for his service to the Chamber and the outstanding community of Delta.
