What attracted you to the position of Business Support Advisor?

Ashpreet: Helping others has always been a passion of mine, and I have always dreamed of translating this passion into a career. When I read about this internship opportunity as a Business Support Advisor at the Delta Chamber of Commerce - the attraction was immediate. I knew wouldn’t find a better opportunity to pursue my ambition of helping out in my community – especially the business community with an organization that matched my values.

Ian: I was hoping to find an internship which would allow me to apply my education and interest in political science and economics to the world around me. The position of Business Support Advisor at the Delta Chamber of Commerce gives me the opportunity to do just that – helping me better understand the challenges and considerations businesses in the City of Delta have to face, especially during these times of economic uncertainty. Working under the Delta Chamber of Commerce also gives me the chance to better appreciate the effort and passion that goes into local municipal politics, a topic which is often overlooked in favour of higher levels of government.

What are your career aspirations?

Ashpreet: Currently studying as an undergrad in my second year of studies at the UBC Sauder School of Business, I intend to specialize in the field of accounting, further taking this schooling to achieve my CPA designation and, afterwards, perhaps law school. Subsequently, using my education and experience to work in non-profit organizations like the Delta Chamber of Commerce to fulfill my passion of serving in the community through means of advocating for businesses and people

Ian: I decided to study in the field of political science with the goal of being able to improve the local communities where I grew up in. I also love seeing how cities around me develop, as well as the rationale and politics that drive these decisions. Because of this, I hope to one day work as an urban planner for a city within the lower mainland.

What’s your favourite movie?

Ashpreet: Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Ian: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

What’s your favourite book?

Ashpreet: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Ian: The Faithful and The Fallen Series by John Gwynne

What can we find you doing when you’re not working as a Delta Chamber Intern ?

Ashpreet: Reading, hanging out with friends and family, and going on hikes and long drives

Ian: I enjoy reading (medieval history/fiction, fantasy etc.), jogging, grabbing food with friends, and video games
