Delta Chamber of Commerce celebrates

100 years of building Delta business

DELTA, BC (February 16, 2010) On March 4, 1910 business owners representing the farming, fishing, retail and service sectors met to form the Delta Board of Trade. Today the Delta Chamber of Commerce, as it is now known, is preparing to celebrate not only 100 years of its role in building business, but the role of business in building our community. It also prepares to look forward to another 100 years of economic development as business works together for the benefit of all of us.

The Delta Chamber is launching its centennial celebrations with a 100th birthday celebration on the evening of March 4, 2010 at the Delta Town and Country Inn.

Delta Chamber Board Chair, Greg Muirhead says, “The celebrations will look back with fondness, appreciation and pride on the role of the Chamber of Commerce in building the business community in Delta and the major role of business in building the community where we live, work and play. And we look forward to the future growth of business and this community in the next 100 years.”

Other plans include a centennial commemorative photo montage of Delta Chamber members over the years, a centennial paddle wheeler cruise in the summer and participation in community events during the summer. Also planned is a series of newspaper articles on the major and essential role of business in developing more business and the communities where we live and work. Business speakers will also address groups throughout Delta on the important role of business, past, present and future.

The March 4 kick off dinner will feature noted local actor, comedian and entertainer, Jackson Davies, as MC, and some prominent, entertaining Delta business leaders recalling memories of decades past. There will also be a whimsical look into some of the future Delta business might expect. The evening will focus on reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. Tickets at $75 per person can be purchased through the Delta Chamber office: 604-946-4232.
