Counterfeit in Delta and merchant account scam advisory

Local Delta counterfeit

A local company with outlets in Tsawwassen and Ladner reports that it recently found counterfeit $100 dollar bills in their cash. A young blonde girl is suspected of passing the bad money.

Ontario scam may come here

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce reports that a chamber of commerce in Ontario has detected a local scam and passes along an advisory to chamber members across the country.

An organization claiming that it is doing phone solicitation regarding merchant accounts says that it has the support of the “XXX chamber of commerce” or “chamber group” and wants to offer a better program. In the process this organization is asking businesses for merchant information that in no way should be shared with third parties. While confined to Ontario just now, the scamming attempts may move out here.

It is good practice for members to avoid giving information like this over the phone or submit any documents (merchant or bank statements) to an entity that is unknown to them.
