South Fraser Perimeter Road Luncheon

The Delta Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon on October 14th at the Delta Town and Country. The event featured an interactive panel discussion on the South Fraser Perimeter Road.

Geoff Freer, Executive Director of the Gateway Program, spoke about designing, building, financing, and operating the SFPR, and the road to completion through December 2013. Also discussed was the reduction of truck traffic on river road and how this would encourage businesses to move into the Tilbury area.

George Harvie, Chief Administrative Officer of the Corporation of Delta provided a perspective on improved traffic flow and the effects on Delta businesses, impact on agriculture in terms of irrigation, burns bog and how it will be affected by the SFPR.  George also focused on the corporation’s strict adherence to environmental certificates.

Orville Nickel, Vice Chair of the Delta Chair of Commerce discussed concerns of businesses in the Tilbury area with regard to the new road, movements to and from Deltaport, and relieved traffic congestion resulting in less truck idling time.  He also emphasized the benefits to local businesses, BC, and Canada, and the enhancement of industrial and economic opportunities in Tilbury.
